Incorporated in 1959 with less than 500 residents, Woodridge is a young community with the vast majority of its homes and businesses constructed after the 1950s. Woodridge was founded by a housing developer, Albert Kaufman, who was largely responsible for the creation of the village. In July 2007, Woodridge was ranked #61 on Money Magazine’s 100 Best Places to Live list.
Woodridge is predominately located in DuPage County, with portions in Will County and Cook County. In 2009, Woodridge will celebrate its 50th Anniversary. Although a relatively young community, Woodridge continues to grow and thrive because it offers an environment that meets a diverse range of lifestyles. Woodridge has something for everyone: recreation and convenient access to the resources of a major metropolitan area.
The Woodridge region’s natural landscape has been maintained in large expanses of forest preserves and parks. Woodridge provides better golfing access than any community in Illinois with two Village-owned golf courses, Seven Bridges and Village Greens. Additional amenities that residents enjoy include three indoor ice skating rinks, state of the art fitness center, and expanded off-road bikeway system.
The Woodridge Park District operates award-winning facilities including Cypress Cove Family Aquatic Park which was voted Chicagoland’s Favorite Water Park Hot Spot in 2003. Chicago Magazine also named it the Best Water Park in Chicago.
In addition, Woodridge’s Park District have many recreational amenities including a in-line hockey court at Janes Avenue Park, 22 playgrounds, 14 baseball/softball fields, 12 tennis courts, 11 basketball courts, 14 soccer fields, and two lakes.
The Park District brings the community together at annual events such as Community Clean Up the Parks Day, Indian Summer Festival, and Haunted Forest Walk. Since 1984 the Woodridge Park District has organized a community favorite, the Woodridge Jubilee. This five-day festival includes family activities, live entertainment, food and carnival rides.
Woodridge also provides access to Interstates 355 & 55, and main roads such as 75th Street and Route 53.
